Our EMMC Moments that Mattered
In early April, AIMEN participated in the 5th International EMMC Workshop, held in Vienna from 8 to 10 April. The conference, organised by the European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC), brought together a diverse group of experts, researchers, and practitioners, fostering collaborative discussions on the future of materials modelling and simulation.
The integration of AI and machine learning into manufacturing processes was one of the aspects discussed, highlighting its potential for modelling materials, improving product quality and speeding up manufacturing lead times.
The PIONEER project was presented with a poster and a flash talk. In addition, a poster focused on Task 4.4 was presented with a 5-minute presentation entitled ‘Enhancing Data Acquisition in Manufacturing: LLMs for Effective Material Property Databases’. This presentation explored how LLMs can automate the extraction of critical material data from complex PDFs, an essential step in creating and maintaining comprehensive material databases. Through the development of open-source models, this work aims to streamline simulation workflows and allow manufacturers more efficient access to material properties.
We are delighted that our work was recognised with the best poster award and have received valuable feedback on its potential impact on the industry.
Finally, the EMMC event highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing materials science and manufacturing technologies. The convergence of artificial intelligence, materials modelling and simulation, together with advanced manufacturing, opens exciting potential to drive transformative innovations in the future.
